Thank you for visiting our monsterski web site. A surprising number of us can be touched by Multiple Sclerosis; in Britain, over 85,000 people currently suffer from this disabling and incurable condition. When I was diagnosed out of the blue my first thoughts were ‘What a bummer!’ My next thought was all about what I could do to help raise awareness about the condition, and to raise money to provide some support for those less able to cope with the condition. Monsterski was born and was a challenge to ski over 150,000 vertical feet in a week – about a Mount Everest a day – in the Canadian Rockies, between the 9th and the 16th of March, 2007. This I managed to achieve with my brother Nick; it was not all plain skiing, however.
Given that Monsterski had proved itself as a fantastically active, demanding and enjoyable fundraising event, I approached the MS Trust to encourage them to take it on as one of their fundraising activities. This they decided to do and in January next year over 40 people from all walks of life will take part in Monsterski 2008 in Colorado. The thing they all have in common is a love of skiing and a desire to assist the MS Trust for all our sakes. On 24th January 2008 until the 2nd of February, we will all ski over 150,000 vertical feet in Vail, Beaver Creek, Copper, Keystone, Breckenridge and Winter Park to raise funds for the MS Trust. YOUR SUPPORT
Monsterski worked and continues to work because of the support you have all given; even just by reading this, all of you are every bit as much of what monsterski is trying to achieve as Nick and I are. Since starting in June 2006, we raised over £27,000 for the Mutual Support Group, the tri-Service MS charity, on our Monsterski 2007. This has made such a difference to the lives of MS sufferers and both Nick and I are deeply grateful to you for your support; we have been genuinely humbled by all of your donations. Importantly, the money has been spent improving the lives of MS sufferers. Thank you for this, and thank you on their behalf too.
Nick and I are now raising funds for the MS Trust, one of the UK's most effective MS charities, on our Monsterski 2008. Since starting at the beginning of April 2007 we've already raised over £5000. The whole group taking part has been able to raise over £100,000. Needless to say, this staggering amount of money will do so much good for MS.
