Born in Montrose, Mike grew up in Edinburgh and learned to ski while at school. With a life-long love of flying, and with a family history of aviation, starting with a grandfather in the Royal Flying Corps, he joined the RAF as a pilot in 1984. Mike served both in Gulf War 1 and commanded the Joint Helicopter Force on Operation Telic, the on-going operation in Iraq, flying Pumas. Moreover, he has also commanded 60(R) Squadron and R&S Wing, the helicopter trials and standards unit for the RAF. The much more handsome of the 2 brothers, Mike is married to the babelicious Hilary and was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in late 2005. But, as his grandmother used to say to him ‘if you’re a good loser, you're still a loser’. This is particularly appropriate as the RAF have just told Mike that he is to be medically discharged from the RAF due to his having Multiple Sclerosis.
Nick Laver
Nick, the lankier of the 2 brothers, grew up in Edinburgh and also learned to ski while at school. Nick completed BASI training as a ski instructor in 1985 and, following art college, started a career in the ski industry working for a number of ski companies, first as a ski guide in Switzerland, then selling ski holidays from his office in Edinburgh. He joined
Ski Independence, the UK’s number one tailor-made ski holiday maker, as manager in 1994. Allegedly, Nick is quite a good skier, is married to the gorgeous Gill and is father to the two complete rogues, Ali and Iain, who cheered loudly when Nick left to do Monsterski 2007, and will cheering even more loudly when he leaves again to do Monsterski 2008.
